NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting is intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation. Our NRA "Gold Standard" Certified Instructor team will teach: gun safety rules, Home Firearm Safety, proper operation of revolvers & semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge & selection, pistol selection & storage, shooting fundamentals, pistol inspection & maintenance, marksmanship, and shooting range safety. Students will complete live-fire personalized training & a nationally standardized shooting qualification (80 rounds) while on the range with NRA Certified Instructors. Students will receive the NRA Guide: Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Exam & receive an NRA course completion certificate. We provide ammo at $ cost. Students bring owned guns or we can provide.

• Different shooting positions
• The most common shooting errors
• Proper gun cleaning and maintenance
• How to maintain your skills

This non-shooting classroom only course teaches students the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for the safe handling and storage of firearms and ammunition in the home. This is a four-hour course for safe gun handling that is conducted in the classroom only. 

Students Are Taught NRA’s 

• Three rules for safe gun handling
• Primary causes of firearms accidents
• Firearm parts
• How to unload certain action types
• Ammunition components
• Cleaning care
• Safe storage of firearms in the home
• The benefits of becoming an active participant in the shooting sports. 

Students will receive the NRA Home Firearm Safety handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Basic Firearm Training Program brochure, course completion certificate. 

This Course meets & exceeds Maryland Handgun Qualification License (HQL) Requirements (with live-fire component), including Conflict Resolution, Anger Management and Suicide Prevention for Firearm Owners.

HQL is a requirement in order for Maryland residents to obtain a handgun for Home Protection

Course Price $200

This course meets & exceeds the 16 hour MD CCW requirements, and will cover MD Law, the Application Processes for obtaining a handgun, and CCW permitting. We teach firearm types, actions, operations, ammunition types, concealed carry garments, holster types, and how to properly & safely draw from concealment. We discuss Personal Protection Inside & Outside the Home, safe storage & transport of firearms & ammunition. We cover Defensive Mindset, ethical & legal considerations for using lethal force & the aftermath of a confrontation. 

Day One - Classroom lessons, demos & hands-on dry-fire drills. 

Day Two - Indoor range - conducting live-fire instruction, defensive pistol drills, shooting qualifications & written exam. 

Students need a firearm, holster, concealment garment, magazine pouch & 200 rounds of ammo. Our NRA "Gold Standard" expectations & requirements are higher than MD state standards, therefore increasing defensive skills needed for survival.

Students will receive reference books, take a NRA CCW Student Examination and receive a course completion certificate bearing the signature of the NRA Secretary and your NRA Certified Instructor.

Each student must successfully demonstrate and pass the gun safety and proficiency range shooting exam with a minimum score of 70% or better.
